Provided communications support to CDPH for its bioterrorism preparedness and all-hazards public health emergency preparedness efforts in order to ensure that the public receives accurate and consistent messages during a possible emergency, instill confidence in public health preparations undertaken by the state, increase collaboration among key partners, and utilize and leverage key CDPH public education program to ensure full use of all available resources. We developed marketing and public relations strategies including media relations, with particular emphasis on ethnic media, website design and content development, messaging, partner outreach and strategic planning and counsel. Projects developed in support of CDPH/EPO included development of crisis communication protocol, an award-winning Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) Tool Kit for 58 local health departments and CERC Kit Training. We conduced ethnic media roundtables focusing on in-culture, in-language media for numerous ethnicities in California, with the priority targets of African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic, Armenian, Russian, Persian and American Indian.
